Baffles must be provided for low viscosity mixing for top-entering mixers are located on the tank centerline. This also includes fixed mounted mixersmounted vertically on the tank cneterline. Baffles ensure that the entrie batch will pass through the zone of the impeller where thereis maximum agitation insensity. Other effects of baffles are that they

[1]. Promote the flow pattern required for the process
[2]. Direct flow from the impeller, producing the required vertical currents
[3]. change the flow from a rotary (essentially static) pattern to a mixing pattern
[4]. prevent excessive swirling, vortexing and air induction
[5]. Greatly improve mixer-loading accuracy
[6]. Assure a stable, consistent power draw
[7]. Produce more uniform, radial shaft loads (less buffeting)which allows longer shaft lengths
